Is College for Dummies?
Is college absolutely a requirement? No. But, realistically, do you want to base your future on a fickle or wavering idea of success? We all know of people who have risen to the top without any educational background, but do you want to make more work for yourself? It wasn’t easy for them and it won’t be easy for you.
We also know of people who obtain degrees but depend so much on that framed-document that their faith and passion are lost. Society has created an easy-to-follow model for getting a computer science degree and then an IT job on Wall Street. Yes, you’re almost guaranteed a $70,000 salary with which you can impress your family. This is true for most college grads. However, the feeling of glory usually dies after you have acquired your materialistic goals. The rest of your working years could be self-imposed slavery to a job about which you are not passionate while your best friend is a poor struggling actress who wouldn’t stop working for anything in the world.
The problem is those who complete college often have more faith in the document than themselves. They lose their creative flow and enthusiasm for life and just go by the book. What would happen if they lost their job? That’s why the suicide rates are going up in today’s economy. Sometimes folks without degrees hustle harder because they didn’t have a ticket given to them. They had to learn how to get their foot in the door. However, one day it may be a requirement to have a degree to start any job or business. What would happen to the non-college graduate then?
Thank God it is never too late for anyone to do what his or her heart desires. Honestly, what is the difference between a Ph.D graduate making $40,000 per year and the GED graduate making $100,000? Booker T. Washington said, “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he or she has overcome while trying to succeed.”
Whether you’re college-educated or not, the sky is the limit. True success is fulfilling the most with your life regardless of your obstacles. Success is contingent upon your credentials but it is equally contingent to your passion, faith, commitment, and tenacity. Both the college and non-college graduate require a daring heart for big success.

God has blessed me in so many ways that I was, and sometimes still am, oblivious to it. Success for me started when I was very young. I was an outstanding athlete, the first black Student Government President of my high school, and in several clubs in high school. I made mistakes along the way and I was pregnant my 12 grade year and was very sadened. I am not ashamed any more to say that I was diagnosed with a mental disease. All things still work together for the good. Still didn’t know how blessed I was. I dealt with low self esteem. I used to be very shy and anti social. But I want to tell you a success story.
By the hand of God I got a full track scholarship to The University of Arkansas at Little Rock. I was offered a volley ball scholarship as well, but didn’t take it. I broke and set track records not only at the University, but in high school also. I had my lovely baby girl, traveled to a lot of places, and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Psychology degree with a minor in Sociology. And I am going to a Nail Technician school for my Pedicure and Manicure business. Look out for my business it is going to be called SonShine Inc.
I say all this to say, to count our blessings and name them one by one. Count the times God has brought us out. Keep a record of the times God has kept us. Count the innumerable times God has delivered us. I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. Count the times he has fed us, clothed us in our right mind, kept us healthy, shoes on our feet, hair done, legs to walk in the church, voices to sing, and hands to wave and clap, shelter over our heads, gas in our car, shielded and shielding and protecting us on the dangerous high ways. God is good to us, every body, and we should not be ungrateful. He is good all the time. Good when I’m up good when I’m down God is good all around. The devil have been coming against me so tough as well as a lot of the Horadians. But a tip of advice I am taking from Sis. Michele is to first seek the kingdom of heaven and his righteousness and all things shall be added unto you.
I didn’t realize the hand of God upon me like I do now. I keep reminding myself of all of the blessings God has done for me and is going to do for me, because when he knock my socks off with my new business and an out pouring of blessings, I need to know how to handle them and how to carry them. I hope he knocks your socks off with an out pouring of blessings to.
Sis. Michele, thank you for your hugs, kisses, telling me I’m beautiful, telling me that you love me, and overcoming our obstacles together, through Christ. I love you Sis. and keep up the good work for Jesus, your husband, your relatives, your friends, and the saints. And like you always say, ” Continue spreading the love.”
I truly love you Sis. Michele
